What does … a Design Engineer actually do?

Today, we would like to introduce you to one of our Development Engineers from the design department in more detail.

Please introduce yourself briefly.

My name is Alexander Berg and I work as a development engineer in the design department, where I am primarily involved in the development and design of mechanical components.

My responsibilities cover the entire process - from the initial idea to prototyping, for example using 3D printing, milling, or board assemblies, right through to supporting series production.

This naturally also includes requirements management and close coordination with other departments in order to implement technical solutions in the best possible way.

How/why did you get into medical technology?

Actually, I ended up in medical technology rather by chance - but it was a happy coincidence. I applied for a position in the field of design and development across various disciplines, and everything just fell into place at BYTEC. Today, I'm glad I did, because medical technology is an incredibly exciting and fulfilling field.

What is the biggest challenge in your work?

Every project is different. In a sense, you always start from scratch, have to familiarize yourself with new topics, develop innovative approaches, and find creative solutions. That's demanding and can be challenging, but it's also what keeps the job varied and exciting.

If I had to name one more thing, it would be the high regulatory requirements in medical technology. These are, quite rightly, much stricter than in many other areas of mechanical engineering, which is where I originally come from. It took some getting used to at first, but now I also see the positive side of this - namely, the safety and quality that these standards guarantee.

What is your favorite tool?

Without a doubt, our CAD software. That may be a somewhat unspectacular answer, but honestly, that's the part of my job that I enjoy the most. Of course, there are many steps that have to be taken before you actually get to the design stage, but once I start working on the model and ideas take shape, it's a special feeling.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to see into the future so that I could identify potential design problems or developments early on and always stay one step ahead.

What do you like most about your job?

In addition to the actual design work, I particularly appreciate the great team. We have a very collegial, open working relationship that is simply enjoyable. People enjoy coming to work - and that's not something to be taken for granted. This good working atmosphere ensures that everyone supports each other and is motivated to do their job.

What makes BYTEC a great place to work?

The fruit basket! *laughs*. Just kidding. It does exist, but that's not the reason, of course!

BYTEC is a family-run company with established structures. There is a pleasant, personal atmosphere. Everyone knows each other, helps each other, and simply feels comfortable

What makes you proud to be part of our team?

I am particularly proud that my work contributes to products that can improve or even save people's lives. Knowing that our developments help people is a wonderful feeling and very motivating.
