Please introduce yourself briefly.
My name is Christin Coenen and I am a project manager in the New Business Development department at BYTEC. Basically, I accompany projects from the initial contact to the moment they are handed over to the relevant specialist department.
When a new customer approaches us, whether at a trade fair or through a direct inquiry, I am the first point of contact. I listen to what the customer needs, analyze the requirements, and coordinate internally with the various departments to find the right team for the project. This ensures that everything is optimally tailored to the customer from the outset.
I also represent BYTEC at trade fairs and maintain personal contact with our customers and network partners, so I travel a lot.
How/why did you get into medical technology?
Thanks to my family, BYTEC and medical technology have always been part of my life. Nevertheless, I spent a long time asking myself whether this was really the right path for me and whether it was what I wanted to do in life.
However, my own medical history over the last few years has completely changed my perspective. I have experienced firsthand how important good medical technology is and how much it can determine quality of life. This experience has inspired me to contribute to improving medical care.
That's exactly what I can do here: We develop and produce medical technology for our customers so that their innovative products can be brought to market and improve the lives of many people. This gives my work a deeper meaning. Today, I know that I am exactly where I belong.
What is the biggest challenge in your work and what challenges do you see for the future?
Sales is actually constantly changing: new customers, new projects, new ideas, and that's exactly what I love! No two days are the same, and it never gets boring. At the same time, however, it's also a challenge because you always have to keep track of everything.
What I personally find challenging at times is the amount of traveling. I really enjoy being on the road, love meeting new people, and interacting with customers in person, but of course, that also means you have to be well organized in your private life to juggle work and everyday life.
Which new technologies in medical technology do you find particularly exciting?
Quite clearly: artificial intelligence. That's the hot topic right now. AI opens up possibilities that were unthinkable just a few years ago. It allows processes to develop much faster, and we're seeing that in our everyday lives. It's really exciting to see how these technologies are changing the industry.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I don't know if this counts as a classic superpower, but I would love to never get sick. For me, health is the best superpower there is—with it, you can do anything! You have energy, you can enjoy life, and you can give your all at work without constantly needing to have tissues or tea at hand.
What do you like most about your job?
Definitely: contact with people. I am constantly meeting new people and helping them to realize their ideas and visions. It's just great to witness the entire process from the initial idea to the finished product.
And trade fairs are a highlight for me every year. My father first took me to COMPAMED in Düsseldorf when I was a teenager. Today, I'm there myself as an exhibitor and look forward to it every time. You meet lots of familiar faces, but also exciting new people. For me, this personal exchange is the best thing about my job.
