What does … a Deputy Director Development actually do?

Today, we would like to introduce you to our Deputy Director Development Joeri, in a little more detail.

Please introduce yourself briefly.

My name is Joeri de Graaf and I work as Deputy Director Development at BYTEC.

I work closely with the Director Development André Coenen on the day-to-day management and further development of the development department.

How/why did you get into medical technology?

My background is in automotive engineering. I studied automotive engineering and also had several jobs in the automotive industry. Since the economic situation in the automotive industry is not so good, I looked at other highly regulated environments when searching for a job and ended up in medical technology. I always wanted to do something meaningful, which medical technology definitely offers.

What is the biggest challenge in your work?

The diversity of the different trades and projects. On the one hand, this makes it a lot of fun because there is so much variety, but at the same time it can also be challenging because you have to switch quickly between different topics and projects.

Which emerging technologies in the field of medical technology do you find particularly exciting?

Cliché as it may be, AI. It's interesting to see where AI can support us, both in medical devices and in development. Everyone is currently trying to implement AI in a variety of ways. On the one hand, this can make our lives easier, but it also means that the daily flow of information we have to process is even greater.

If you could decide for yourself, what kind of product would you develop/build?

A product to heal or support people with incurable diseases. A product for cancer therapy or to support MS or Parkinson's patients.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

I would choose “to see into the future” so that I could prepare myself for the things that lie ahead.

What do you like most about your job?

As I mentioned earlier, the variety. Through my work, I gain insights into all our development projects and all our trades, and I also have a lot of cross-departmental interaction. This means you learn a lot and have the opportunity to contribute your ideas or provide support in many areas.

What makes BYTEC a good employer?

BYTEC is a very open employer with short decision-making processes and a friendly atmosphere. You get the chance to learn and develop. The colleagues are also great, which makes it fun to work on projects in teams.

What makes you proud to be part of our team?

On the one hand, the fact that we are working on the medical devices of the future. We have many interesting and innovative projects that can really do good for patients. On the other hand, the team. We have a very good team, both professionally and personally, which means we can achieve a lot together and have fun doing it.
