Strategic realignment of our purchasing department

A glimpse into the future: Purchasing at BYTEC is digital, automated, and AI-supported

How can we as a purchasing department deliver real value—today and tomorrow?
Our purchasing department is still very operationally focused. We want to embrace digital transformation and contribute to an innovative medical technology company. To this end, we are strategically realigning our purchasing department.

Digitalization, automation, artificial intelligence—where will purchasing be in three years?
The purchasing department will undergo fundamental changes, and not just at our company. Modern purchasing does not think in modules, but in end-to-end processes. Process automation creates capacity to take on strategic tasks in a targeted manner.

We want to make our purchasing department a tangible enabler – that is our goal for tomorrow. As a strategic partner within the company, we play an active role in shaping value creation. Through the targeted use of AI sourcing, we can speed up our time-to-market. To achieve this, it is important to identify innovative technologies at an early stage and deploy them in a targeted manner. We need to optimize master data management because “clean data” is the basis for any automation.  This enables us to simplify and automate processes.

What we took away from the eLösungstage 2025
The topic of AI has arrived in purchasing – this was demonstrated by the eLösungstage 2025. The tools are there – now it's all about implementation and integration. Many companies are still in the early stages – we see this as an opportunity to move forward in a targeted manner and continue to develop our purchasing in a strategic, data-driven, and technologically consistent manner.

What is particularly exciting for us is the connection between our ERP system Proalpha and specialized eProcurement tools & marketplaces, automated document flows, data reconciliation, and digital supplier collaboration.

Our goal is to set up purchasing in such a way that it generates real added value for our customers. In addition to the right technology, the path to this goal requires openness, a willingness to learn, and the courage to break new ground.
